Liposuction Used By Cancer Patients For Breast Reconstructive Surgery

Cancer patients are now able to have breast reconstruction after surgery with a new form of liposuction. Ten cancer patients at Singleton Hospital in Swansea located in Wales are the first to benefit from this new procedure.

Fat is taken from around the stomach or thighs and processed with a new machine, which uses stem cells to help the fat survive.

The fat is then re-injected into the body where the original tumour was removed from the breast.

The new procedure is only available at a few centers in the UK. This new liposuction procedure is less invasive than traditional breast reconstructive surgery which is a major operation involving a stay of several days in the hospital.

Samantha Ward-Jones, 39, who wanted to repair damage from the removal of a tumour from her breast two years ago, was the first of the patients at Singleton to have the treatment.

“To be able to be part of something so new and so revolutionary was just very exciting,” said Ms Ward-Jones. “I felt it was the end of a bad period in my life and something positive.”

“It was a very hard thing to have breast cancer and have the operation and have the tumour removed,” she adds.

“To feel whole again and feel back to normal like I was two years ago is incredible.”

According to consultant oncoplastic surgeon Nader Khonji, the new technique has a higher success rate because of the innovative use of stem and regenerative cells from the fat.

“The fat that’s removed is put into the machine for processing,” Mr Khonji explained.

“This machine uses a special enzyme to break down the tissue and spins it to concentrate the stem cells – the crucial cells that contain growth factors for the new growth of blood vessels.”

Those cells are then mixed back in remaining fat and re-injected into the breast a far quicker procedure than conventional breast reconstruction, which involves moving muscle tissue from the patient’s back.

Shirley Redden, who also underwent the procedure, said: “It’s about self-esteem.”

Mrs Redden, who wanted breast reconstruction following a lumpectomy two years ago, said: “I might be older, but I’ve still got pride.

“I’m hoping this will help make me feel better and get over the trauma of treatment. When it is done, I’ll feel like a woman again.”

If treatment of the first 10 patients continues to be successful, it is hoped that the new procedure can be developed in the future for patients needing whole breast reconstruction after mastectomy, instead of using conventional implants.

Hywel Griffith BBC Wales health correspondent contributed to this story.

Laser Lipo Smartlipo Melts Fat & Tightens Skin-Photos-Video

Laser Liposuction has many brand names, such as Smartlipo, Vaser Lipo and more, but they all have one thing in common, they melt fat and tighten skin. If you’ve tried dieting and exercise, but parts of your body simply refused to lose the fat or tone up, then laser liposuction may be for you.

Laser Lipo is vaporizes fat by using a tiny laser tip probe that dissolves fat without the need to perform painful suctioning. The procedure is bloodless, allows skin retraction and is performed under local anesthesia. No stitches are required and therefore virtually no unsightly scars. Laser Lipo sculpts fat bulges such as eye bags, tummy, love handles, thighs, bra bulges, double chin, upper-arms and unsightly cellulite. Laser lipo can also remove excess fat in your face.

Miss Plastic Surgery Beauty Pageant To Be Held in Hungary

beauty pageantA “Miss  Plastic Surgery” beauty pageant celebrating cosmetic surgery is being held on Qctober 9, 2009 in Budapest, Hungary.

Contestants can be now judged on cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery procedures such as breast augmentation, facelifts and liposuction.

Women competing in the “Miss Plastic Surgery” pageant,  must submit their medical records along with their vital statistics.

The contest is open to women between 18 and 30 years old who have undergone at least one cosmetic procedure that involved general or local anaesthesia.

The contest was started to boost the plastic surgery industry in Hungary, where cosmetic procedures still carry a stigma of artificiality. Pageant officials said the beauty of the contestants would demonstrate how the industry had advanced in recent years.

The judges are chosen from the best plastic surgeons in the country. There will be five judges choosing 24 finalists from a narrowed field of 50 women who have received cosmetic surgery. Internet users and media representatives get to choose one of the 24  heading to the finals as well.

The contest includes separate categories for:

  • Contestants between 18 and 30
  • Entrants over 30
  • The Joan Rivers category

The winner receives a new apartment. The first runner up gets a new car and the second runner up wins a vacation in Kenya.

Are Cosmetic Surgery Taxes on Liposuction, Botox & Mesotherapy Coming?

mesotherapyTaxes on lipo, Botox, mesotherapy, lipodissolve,  breast augmentation, you name it and the Government wants to tax it. Nose jobs, breast enhancements, tummy tucks and liposuction could be hit with a ten per cent tax to help foot the bill of Barack Obama’s $1 trillion overhaul of the health care system.

I guess the government thinks that anyone who gets any cosmetic procedure is rich and can afford it, but that is far from the truth. Most patients are hard working middle class people who make less than 100K per year.  And what about procdures that are medically necessary like breast reductions for back pain, deviated septium for breathing problems, reconstructive surgery and more.

Do we want the government making these decisions on what is medically necessary?

Max Baucus, the chairman of the senate finance committee which is drawing up one of several versions of a health care reform bill, described the proposed cosmetic surgery tax as “interesting”, “creative” and “kind of fun”.

Americans last year spent $10.3 billion (£6.3 billion) on 12.1 million operations or procedures to improve their looks or replace the hair on their heads.

Five million doses of wrinkle-reducing Botox were injected at an average cost of $500, while 307,230 women had their breasts enlarged for an average $3,816. Nearly 245,138 people had excess fat sucked out of their body, while 121,653 tummy tucks were performed.

Intended as a tax on the rich, the plan would cover all procedures that are currently not tax deductible and are not commonly covered by health insurance.

Tax deductions are allowed on procedures such as reconstructive surgery due to cancer, but nose jobs, liposuction, teeth whitening and hair implants would be subject to the new tax.

Critics have said it would give doctors the “bureaucratic nightmare” of deciding whether the tax was applicable, and would also discriminate against women, who make up 86 per cent of cosmetic surgery patients.

Other critics have said the tax would unfairly target the middle class.

Malcolm Roth, a vice president at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons who has a practice in New York, said most patients earn less than $100,000 a year.

“Typically I see women who have had children and want a tummy tuck or liposuction – they call it a ‘mummy makeover’. People literally scrimp and save for years and wait until they are 40 or 50 and want to give themselves a present.”

Several states have looked at a similar tax, but only New Jersey has gone ahead. It has, however, reportedly only achieved 25 per cent of the forecast revenue and two years ago voted to repeal the law. The repeal was later vetoed by Governor John Corzine.

The problem of funding health care reform has dogged Mr Obama’s effort to change a system that is widely regarded to be failing too many members of the public.

Breast Augmentation & Liposuction Received with Stolen ID

According to Gary Klien from Marin Independent Journal – A Berkeley California woman was sentenced to state prison Tuesday for using identity theft to steal more than $24,000 in breast enhancement and liposuction from a cosmetic surgeon in Greenbrae.

Rosland Renee Edwards, 37, received a term of 32 months by Judge James Ritchie. Part of the sentence was for the Marin case, and part was for another case in Santa Clara County, attorneys said.

The investigation began in October after a theft complaint by the Kimberly Henry Plastic Surgery Center on Bon Air Road.

Authorities discovered that Edwards used a Florida woman”s American Express card to order $24,319 in body work from the medical office, including $12,999 for breast enhancement and $11,320 for liposuction.

Subsequent investigation also linked Edwards to a fraudulent transaction in San Jose, where $6,570 in merchandise was charged to an American Express card.

Did Kim Kardashian’s Sister Khloe Have Liposuction?

khloe weight lossKhloe Kardashian  has recently lost 20 pounds and looks fanatastic! However we are wondering  did she have liposuction to help her along?

Khloe says that she lost the 20 pounds by doing cardio exercises at least 30 minute a day and by watching what she eats.

Khloe recently told Usmagazine.com, “I try to do just 30 minutes of cardio, mandatory.”

“I eat whatever I want until noon. Then from noon on, I watch what I eat.”

The Kardashian family which includes Kim Kim Kardashian and Bruce Jenner have been very open about their plastic surgery in the past, so liposuction or laser liposuction (laser lipo) wouldn’t be out of the question. It could very well be that Khloe’s weight loss may be a result of both exercise and liposuction.

New York plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer says, “It is hard to tell if Khloe Kardashian has slimed down due to natural weight loss or to liposuction. However, in either case, she needs to maintain good nutrition and have an aggressive exercise regimen to keep from putting the weight back on.”

Smart Lipo – Using Laser Lipo For Fat Removal

smartlipoA unique procedure called Smart Lipo, a brand name for laser lipo, is different when compared to other fat removal procedures on the market today. The procedure is actually very simple and uses state of the art laser technology. Smart Lipo, also known as laser lipo, liquefies fat deposits which are then removed through a tiny pin point incision made by the cosmetic surgeon. A local anesthetic is used in the area. Smart Lipo is an FDA approved procedure that resuts in minimal bruising or swelling.

The patient must be 18 years of age or older and in good health in order to have the procedure. This type of procedure is not recommended for patients that are twenty five pounds or more over their ideal BMI (body mass index). Smart Lipo is aimed at people who have tried every diet under the sun, have exercised till they have dropped and still find it hard to reduce fat on those stubborn areas. Does this sound like you? If so then this procedure is perfect for you. Afterwards, it is recommended that you enhance the results by continuing your diet and exercise routine.

So where do you start? The answer is to visit GetMeso.com, a Smart Lipo doctor and information site where one can search for laser lipo information and doctors. Here you can visit the doctor profile pages which link to their websites. After you find your nearest doctor, the next step is to set up a consultation. The consultation will give you the chance to find out exactly how you can be helped and will give you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have about the procedure.

After the procedure, you will usually wait one or two days before you can go back to living your life normally. Depending on your doctor’s instructions, the bandages only have to be kept on for a week or two. You will also find that your skin begins to tighten around the areas that are treated (usually 6 weeks after treatment) unlike traditional liposuction where your skin can remain lax due to large volumes of fat being sucked out. With Smart Lipo this does not happen, because when liquidizing the fatty deposits the laser promotes the skin to repair itself, thus making the skin tighter.

Smartlipo costs are very competitive and average from around $2,000 for small areas to around $5,000 for larger areas. Combinations of areas are usually calculated at a slight discount. Compared to liposuction, Smart Lipo prices are generally thirty percent less than traditional liposuction and in some cases the results may be better.

Lipodissolve – An Alternative to Liposuction

lipo dissolveMany patients are turning to lipodissolve as an alternative to liposuction and other cosmetic surgery procedures. Lipodissolve as a fat removal treatment can accomplish something that many people have been trying to do for years. Women and men all over the world look into the mirror each day and wish they had some “magical” way to solve their weight issues. Lipodissolve has been compared to other successful treatments on the market but this particular treatment when administered properly, has been shown to have a higher success rate where results can last longer. The treatment involves a series of injections to the problem area to remove fat deposits. Most people when they wish to lose weight “magically” go to their cosmetic surgeon for liposuction, excess skin reductions, gastric bands etc. These types of treatments are invasive and require general anesthesia, which can pose a high risk for the patient. Lipodissolve may be the answer for some who do not wish to undergo surgery. The process is simple and quick to perform. You can be in and out during your lunch break at work! Imagine being able to drop a dress size over a very short amount of time, and all in your lunch hour! What an amazing thought! LipoDissolve seems to have achieved these results for many who have received this treatment.

For best results the treatment is usually completed in stages. Treatments are often spaced out over a period of time, with each treatment being given every 2 weeks. The treatments can be helpful if you have problems with your arms, legs, bottom, stomach and love handles. You may experience some slight bruising after each treatment but this is normal and is usually not a problem as these will fade over time. The amount of inches you lose in the treated areas differs from person to person but the results can be quite dramatic.

Lipodissolve compared to other similar treatments on the market is very competitive in cost. Each person who undergoes the treatment receives a personalized plan created for them by their doctor or specialist. The average price is approximately ½ the cost of liposuction and, like other cosmetic procedures, many doctors and specialists will offer credit options to help pay for your treatments.

Many lipo dissolve specialists are so confident of their results that some will actually offer a thirty day, money back guarantee if you do not see any results (measurable ones) after the full amount of treatments have been given. Again, this depends on the doctor or clinic offering the procedure.

Always consult with a lipodissolve doctor or expert before undergoing this procedure. It is important that you know all you know risks and side effects before undergoing any lipodissolve treatement.

Laser Liposuction – Is It Right For You?

Smart LipoPioneering minds have really opened up the market and produced an amazing safe way for people to enjoy the benefits of liposuction but without the down-time, pain, general anesthetic and cost. They have introduced to the world laser liposuction (also known as the brand name Smart Lipo). A laser is used at a certain frequency to liquefy the fat deposits in areas around your body that are prone to stubborn fat that is hard to remove. Then, under a local anesthetic, this liquid is removed from the area by a small needle which drains it away. The procedure is very painless and the reported results are astounding. Thousands of people are now able to lose weight without weeks of down-time. The total down-time for laser liposuction is usually 1 to 2 days. The bandages are only kept on for a week – possibly two, depending on your healing rate. This means that you are able to go back to work in record time. The cost of the procedure varies from clinic to clinic but on average it is up to 40% cheaper in some areas than the traditional form of liposuction being offered.

There are several places on the body that this treatment can be used including the stomach, hips, love handles, bottom, face, chin, neck, arms and even fat removal in the area commonly referred as “manboobs”. There are some limitations to those who can actually have this procedure done. It is advised that laser lipo should only be carried out on patients that are no more than approximately 25 to 35 lbs over their target recommended Body Mass Indexed (BMI) weight. It is designed and marketed to people who eat well and exercise often but still find that they cannot get rid of fat in stubborn areas. This procedure is perfectly suited for the person who already exercises and is aware that this is not a miracle treatment. It does require a healthy regimen to maintain the results achieved by the procedure.

The results achieved after the procedure will last as long as you allow it to last. If you gain weight significantly, then you will find that the problem will return so you have to make sure you maintain a healthy routine. People who are in bad health, who have kidney and liver problems, diabetes, heart issues, cancer, certain skin disorders and are 25 – 35 lbs overweight should not undergo laser liposuction.

Laser liposuction can remove fat within a thirty to forty minute session, with approximately two weeks between each session to allow time to heal. The number of sessions required will be determined by your doctor.

Smartlipo – How Smart Is This Laser Liposuction Procedure?

Smart Lipo, a brand name for laser liposuction, has become an extremely popular procedure that surgeons now use in their arsenal of fat removal techniques. Smartlipo has become popular among patients because it allows the surgeon to precisely sculpt the body. Smart Lipo is a minimally invasive laser lipo procedure which is almost always performed under local anesthesia, resulting in less bruising and minimal downtime following surgery. Smartlipo combines the use of the fiberoptic laser and small liposuction cannulas. Because the Smartlipo procedure is performed under local anesthesia, the patient can return to work and assume their daily activities usually the next day.

SmartLipo uses specialized laser technology to permanently remove fat cells in order to contour and reshape areas of the body including areas such as the abdomen, love handles, backs, thighs, hips, knees, arms, neck, and chin.

Smartlipo uses a very small fiberoptic laser, which leaves tiny, virtually invisible scars after surgery. Smartlipo also tightens the skin in addition to melting fat and it is the skin tightening that is what distinguishes Smartlipo from other traditional liposuction methods. When using traditional liposuction, removal of large amounts of fat can result in sagging skin. With Smartlipo, the specific laser wavelengths of light coagulate the blood vessels, so there is minimal bruising and swelling resulting in less risks for the patient and faster recovery time. Using Smartlipo also allows the skin to tighten after the excess fat is removed. The tightening will occur gradually over time, usually over 4- 6 weeks, resulting in smoother skin and a more sculpted appearance.

Many other features distinguish SmartLipo from traditional liposuction. These features include the patients comfort, the number of of visits required, recovery time and the amount of scarring and bruising. Traditional liposuction requires about seven days of down time after the procedure, uses general anesthesia which carries a high risk to the patient, the wearing of a compression garment for six weeks, stitches and can require additional surgery. SmartLipo, as opposed to traditional liposuction, uses local anesthesia,  requres only one to two days of down time, leaves virtually no scarring, requires no stitches and only two weeks for compression garments.

Please note that although SmartLipo is highly effective, it is only appropriate for patients wishing to lose small amounts of fat, usually not more than 8 pounds. If you have larger amounts of fat that need to be removed, SmartLipo will not provide the desired result you may be looking for. In cases where large amounts of fat need to be removed, traditional liposuction or an alternative method for weight loss is required.

How much does SmartLipo Cost? The average Smartlipo cost is usually in the range of $2,500 to $5,000 per area depending on the surgeon and can usually be performed in one office visit.

SmartLipo is not for everyone and only a consultation with a qualified surgeon can help you decide whether SmartLipo is right for you.
