Plastic Surgery Allowed for Miss Universe Contestants

Miss Switzerland, Miss Puerto Rico, Miss USA 2009

Miss Switzerland, Miss Puerto Rico, Miss USA 2009

It has been estimated that 30 percent of Miss Universe contestants have had some sort of cosmetic work or plastic surgery done prior to the competition.

I would say that breast augmentation may be the most obvious.  We can’t say for certain which contestants have had actual cosmetic work done, but the women are beautiful.

According to a Fox News article: “A source close to the Donald Trump-owned Miss Universe Organization [says] that not only is elective [plastic] surgery allowed, but it is quietly encouraged.”

Last night Miss Venezuela won for the second year in a row. Watch video.

Marcus Davis New Plastic Surgery Stops Bleeding (Video)

Marcus Davis Martial Arts Fighter

Marcus Davis Martial Arts Fighter

When I read this story about Martial Arts fighter, Marcus Davis, on Plastic Surgery News, I went OMG! Now there is a new plastic surgery procedure that can minimize bleeding during a violent fight.

It’s amazing what one will subject themselves to in the name of their career, sport, etc. in  regards to one’s body and health. I thought I heard it all, but apparently not.

Plastic Surgery News reports that Marcus Davis, a mixed martial arts fighter and previous contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 2, is using an innovative plastic surgery technique to minimize bleeding from injuries sustained in the ring.

According to Plastic Surgery news a new kind of elective plastic surgery is being used as a way of minimizing bleeding that occurs during violent professional fights. Instead of simply managing scar tissue, some fighters claim, surgery could replace it and renew stability in facial areas that have been badly lacerated. This could give many professional fighters not just a way to bleed less when they do get hit – but also more confidence when they enter the ring.

Marcus-Davis-240209A new surgical technique, still in development, could be just the thing for professional fighters who want to reduce how much they bleed in the ring.

Boxer and mixed martial arts fighter Marcus Davis is just one of many contact-sport athletes who recently have undergone elective plastic surgery to make their skin – especially skin on the face and around the eyes – less prone to bleeding when they get cut during a fight.

In Davis’ case, this involved slightly reducing the size of the bones around his eye sockets and then replacing scar tissue in that same area with collagen that had come from the skin of cadavers. Davis said the results made all the difference in his future fights.

This method is still pending analysis from medical researchers, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has nothing to say about it until further testing is done.

Can Plastic Surgery Help Migraine Headaches?

Plastic surgeons have developed a modified version of the forehead lift to deactivate nerve triggers in this region with excellent results. In a recent study, which added more validation to this surgical approach, 75 migraine patients were assigned to two groups: 49 received the actual migraine surgery and 26 received a “placebo” surgery. None of the patients were told which group they’d been assigned to.

Those chosen for the real plastic surgery had some significant improvements: 83 percent had at least a 50 percent reduction in migraines after a year. And 57 percent reported a full elimination of migraines. Read full story

Are Cosmetic Surgery Taxes on Liposuction, Botox & Mesotherapy Coming?

mesotherapyTaxes on lipo, Botox, mesotherapy, lipodissolve,  breast augmentation, you name it and the Government wants to tax it. Nose jobs, breast enhancements, tummy tucks and liposuction could be hit with a ten per cent tax to help foot the bill of Barack Obama’s $1 trillion overhaul of the health care system.

I guess the government thinks that anyone who gets any cosmetic procedure is rich and can afford it, but that is far from the truth. Most patients are hard working middle class people who make less than 100K per year.  And what about procdures that are medically necessary like breast reductions for back pain, deviated septium for breathing problems, reconstructive surgery and more.

Do we want the government making these decisions on what is medically necessary?

Max Baucus, the chairman of the senate finance committee which is drawing up one of several versions of a health care reform bill, described the proposed cosmetic surgery tax as “interesting”, “creative” and “kind of fun”.

Americans last year spent $10.3 billion (£6.3 billion) on 12.1 million operations or procedures to improve their looks or replace the hair on their heads.

Five million doses of wrinkle-reducing Botox were injected at an average cost of $500, while 307,230 women had their breasts enlarged for an average $3,816. Nearly 245,138 people had excess fat sucked out of their body, while 121,653 tummy tucks were performed.

Intended as a tax on the rich, the plan would cover all procedures that are currently not tax deductible and are not commonly covered by health insurance.

Tax deductions are allowed on procedures such as reconstructive surgery due to cancer, but nose jobs, liposuction, teeth whitening and hair implants would be subject to the new tax.

Critics have said it would give doctors the “bureaucratic nightmare” of deciding whether the tax was applicable, and would also discriminate against women, who make up 86 per cent of cosmetic surgery patients.

Other critics have said the tax would unfairly target the middle class.

Malcolm Roth, a vice president at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons who has a practice in New York, said most patients earn less than $100,000 a year.

“Typically I see women who have had children and want a tummy tuck or liposuction – they call it a ‘mummy makeover’. People literally scrimp and save for years and wait until they are 40 or 50 and want to give themselves a present.”

Several states have looked at a similar tax, but only New Jersey has gone ahead. It has, however, reportedly only achieved 25 per cent of the forecast revenue and two years ago voted to repeal the law. The repeal was later vetoed by Governor John Corzine.

The problem of funding health care reform has dogged Mr Obama’s effort to change a system that is widely regarded to be failing too many members of the public.

Plastic Surgery Do It Yourself Nightmare (Video)

Economic hard times are causing more and more people to resort to do it yourself (DIY) plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures such as injectable fillers like silicone. The problem is that most patients are at risk with products that can be easily obtained on the Internet as is the story with Mary.

Good Morning America interviewed Mary, a woman who was able to buy silicone and syringes online. After receiving the products, she then injected her lips and face at home.

“Restylane…Botox…that’s hundreds of dollars every time you want to get it done…you know, how many people can afford that?”, she went on to say.

But instead of using medical-grade silicone, Mary used personal lubricant. This is when the nightmare began. The result was that her face became inflamed with infected silicone. Instead of saving money, Mary ended up paying massive doctor’s bills in order to try to have the damage undone.

Mary talks about her nightmare story. Watch video.

Plastic surgery or any medical cosmetic procedure should only be done by a qualified doctor.

Bruce Jenner Talks About His Plastic Surgery

Bruce Jenner

Bruce Jenner

Bruce Jenner is speaking out about his plastic surgery.

“If you Google my name, the worst plastic surgeries of all time, or whatever it is… They’ve compared me to Michael Jackson,” Bruce once said on an episode of his reality show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.”

Both Bruce and Michael were called out for going too far. After undergoing a nose job and partial face-lift in 1984, Bruce’s post-plastic surgery face has been ridiculed and attacked in the media.

“‘Because you’re Bruce Jenner, Olympic champ [people said], ‘Oh my gosh, you shouldn’t be doing things like that.’ The media kind of went nuts on that stuff,” Bruce told Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos.

When asked why he underwent surgery, Bruce said he “was just going through a bad time.”

“I don’t think you ever had a lot of self esteem,” his wife, Kris, added.

“I had just gone through my second divorce, lost a lot of money. I was in a little dinky house,” Bruce added. Read Full Story Here

Plastic Surgeon Threatened by Supermodel Karen Mulder

Karen Mulder

Karen Mulder

July 1, 2009 Paris – Dutch Supermodel Karen Mulder was arrested in Paris on Wednesday after allegedly threatening to attack her plastic surgeon. Mulder is being held at a police station in the French capital following ‘vicious telephone calls’ directed at the female medic. The 39 year old supermodel was thought to have asked for a previous operation to be reversed.

‘She was screaming and shouting about the operation and became extremely threatening. ‘There were repeated calls to the female surgeon who was extremely scared. The suspect is being interviewed, said a detective.’

Mulder was arrested at around 10am and is being kept in a cell in the eight arrondissement, the epi-centre of Paris haute couture.

The stunning supermodel was dubbed ‘The Blonde with Class’ by Vogue magazine, before retiring she was earning up to £10,000-a-day at one point.

Watch video of Karen Mulder earlier in her modeling career. She is absolutely breathtaking.

She became famous for appearances in a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and for doing work for the Victoria’s Secret catalogue.

In 2001 she claimed she and other models had been used as sex slaves by senior politicians and policeman, even falsely claiming she had been raped by Prince Albert of Monaco.

She attended a psychiatric hospital suffering from chronic depression, blaming it on drug addiction during her modeling days.

A year later she attempted suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills and was only saved by friends. She was once a close associate of French first lady Carla Bruni.

In an interview earlier in her career, Mulder said: ‘From the beginning, I  hated being photographed.

‘For me, it was just an assumed role, and in the end, I didn’t know who I  really was as a person. Everybody was saying to me, “Hi, you’re fantastic.” ‘But  inside, I felt worse from day to day.’

Mulder has had a roller coaster love life. At age 20 she married French  photographer Rene Bosne which ended in divorce a few years later.
In 1993 she was engaged to property developer Jean-Yves Le Fur, but that  relationship ended as well.

Two years ago Mulder made a brief return to the runway alongside Campbell, and other supermodels including Linda Evangelista and Helena Christensen.

Before perfoming plastic surgery on any patient,  plastic surgeons not only have to look at the patient’s overall physical history, but mental history as well. If a potential patient has a history of depression, psychiatric care, suicidal attempt, look out.
